Kartik Aryan and Rishabh Sinha bond on the sets of Subhash Ghai's Kaanchi

In Bollywood there is always a stereotype that two actors working on the same set don’t get along. But the Kaanchi set tells a different story. Kartik Aryan, who plays the lead actor, and Rishabh Sinha, who plays a negative role, bonded big time on the sets of Kaanchi.

Rishabh says “You know there is this stereotype that two actors hate each other and the press always quizzes actors on this topic. The fact is that it’s not about the chemistry between two people or three people. Filmmaking is a team effort with more than 500 people working together to make a film perfect and on the sets of Kaanchi we all enjoyed working together as one unit and that will reflect positively in the film. Kartik is like a brother to me and shooting together has been great fun.”

Kartik adds “Rishabh is a brilliant and a professional actor to work with. It’s been fun shooting with him and the entire unit of Kaanchi!”

Subhash Ghai’s Kaanchi will release on the 6th of December 2013. Along with Kartik and Rishabh the film stars newcomer Mishti and veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty.

Rishabh Sinha's move from TV to the big screen

TV heartthrob Rishabh Sinha is playing a negative character in Kaanchi. Rishabh, who is popular on the TV screen, shares his experience on his first meeting with Subhash Ghai.

"When the COO of Mukta Arts called me, I was like why would they want me? Why would Subhash Ghai even meet me. I was called to the office and waited for Subhash Ghai and in just five minutes, I was interacting directly with the the Showman himself.

The first question he asked me was whether I would do a film where I will have to pick a character for myself. I was like, sure, why not!

I was just awestruck when I met Subhash Ghai for the first time. He made me feel really confident about myself and during the meeting I was sure that I wanted to debut on the big screen with Kaanchi."

Subhash Ghai's Epic Villains

The showman Shubhash Ghai is known to make epic films with strong characters. We all remember not just the leading actors but also the negative characters from his movies.

Here are some of the most memorable ones:

Dr Dang from Karma portrayed by Anupam Kher is considered as one of the best negative roles in Bollywood. His dialogue “is thappad ki gunj tumhe zarur sunayi degi” became a trademark of the film. Anupam Kher is still remembered for his performance in the film and whenever there is a discussion on the best negative characters in Bollywood, Dr Dang is always in the list!

Simi Garewal played a critically acclaimed negative role in Subhash Ghai's Karz. The role acclaimed role of Kamini Verma, the murderous wife from the past life, which won her a Filmfare nomination

Jaaved Jafferi debuted with a negative role in an epic Subhash Ghai movie - Meri Jung. It had the famous song Bol Baby Bol Rock N Roll sung by Kishore Kumar. Here, Jaffrey epitomized the spoilt brat who uses his father's money and power to exploit his classmates. This reflected the college life of the 80s where such stereotypes were present and seem to be present till this day.

Khalnayak shows how politicians use the young and helpless to create their army. Sanjay Dutt became an icon with this role and his image with the long hair and the reckless attitude made him the heartthrob of the entire nation. Khalnayak became the essential villain of the 90s, which inspired many other roles in the 90s.

Kartik Tiwari’s near death experience while shooting for Kaanchi

After returning to Mumbai from Nainital, Subhash Ghai shared an experience while shooting for Kaanchi in Nainital which was according to him, a close call!

Subhash Ghai, “My heart beat almost stopped while shooting for a song. Seated on the mountain’s edge, Kartik would have slipped into the deep ravine. It was a rain song sequence that we were shooting. He and Mishti, the new heroine, had to sit on different stones at the peaks of two mountains, facing each other. This was an edge of a mountain. Since this was a long shot cranes were being used and there was nobody near him. What nobody realised was that the mud stone on which Kartik was sitting on was gradually melting because of the torrential rain. The music was loud and all of us were concentrating on getting the perfect shot. Kartik realised what was happening, but being a dedicated actor, he continued with the scene. After I shouted ‘Cut’ as the scene was perfect, we saw the stone give away, and Kartik nearly slipped down. But he held on a stone nearby. When I asked Kartik why did he not called for a ‘Cut’, he said, he wanted to complete the shot. Has he fallen down it was a good 2000 feet into the valley. All of us were petrified. I must say, God was kind and saved us from a tragedy.”

Kaanchi is produced and directed by Subhash Ghai, starring newcomer Mishti, Kartik Tiwari, Rishabh Sinha, Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty and is slated to release in August.

Yesterday Once More

After a five-year hiatus, the Showman is back with a new film, Kaanchi, which also launches a new face, Mishti.

Mirror lensman Sachin Haralkar was present at Film City, Goregaon, where a fresh schedule of the movie was being shot by Subhash Ghai.

Seen in the photograph are Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor hugging each other and looking rather animated as if having a fun conversation.

An eyewitness said: "The two of them get busy talking to each other in between shots. Ghai too joins them and sometimes, gets nostalgic, taking a trip down memory lane. However, once it is time to shoot, they all become rather focussed and concentrate on what they are supposed to do."

According to the eyewitness, as Ghai has worked with Rishi and Mithun previously, the trio share a great equation and the atmosphere on the sets is always charged. Apparently, at some point during the shoot, Ghai even remarked: "Magic is created by two things, the characters written in the script and the characters played by the actors. And I only work with people I have a rapport with."

Kartik Tiwari, "Subhash Ghai is going to make it big with Kaanchi"

Subhash Ghai returns to direction after a hiatus of five years with this ambitious project. Ghai had last directed the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Yuvvraaj.

Ghai has been a wonderful mentor to Kartik, who plays the male lead in Kaanchi. Talking about his shooting experience, the actors says, "We shot in Nainital for 15-20 days and it felt like a picnic. The place was beautiful and we'd end up partying every day. But we also worked very hard".

Elaborating on the showman of Bollywood, he adds, "Subhash sir is very clear with what he wants. He saw to it that we completed our daily schedule on time. I don't know how he managed that. This was my first experience with him and he's happy with the entire cast. He has so much passion and energy, I can't imagine myself in his shoes and doing what he does. The amount of effort he's put into Kaanchi, he's going to make it big with this film"

Karitk is ready to do anything on screen!

As a new comer in the Hindi film industry, Kartik is willing to do anything as long as the role demands it, as the actor puts it.

"It depends on the need of the story, script and character. If I feel fully connected to the character, then why not? I think like a real person and what he would do in that given situation. As an actor, you have to be free and can't afford to be shy. You have to be besharam. I take my profession very seriously so I don't have any doubts regarding characters I play".

Kaanchi also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Mishti and Rishi Kapoor and is slated for an August release.

Are you guys excited to watch him on the Big Screen in Kaanchi?

Kartik plays the clapper boy on the sets of Kaanchi

Subhash Ghai is highly impressed by his Hero of Kaanchi Kartik Tiwari, not because he is the Hero of the film but because Kartik is humble and dedicated to his career too deeply.

Kartik Tiwari, "Kaanchi is Subhash Ghai's comeback"

After Akaash Vani, actor Kartik Tiwari will be seen in Subhash Ghai's upcoming release Kaanchi.

Kartik is two films old and a call from a veteran like Subhash Ghai came as a pleasant surprise for him. "After Akaash Vani, I did not expect to have a film, that too from Subhash Ghai. So when Mukta Arts called me, I was very obliged. When I met Subhash ji for the first time, I was really happy. It's a dream come true as I'm learning a lot. I expect things to change for me with this film", says Kartik.

Although Subhash Ghai's last few films have not worked at the box office, Kartik is not bothered by this. "Subhash ji is legendary and given 11 hits in a row. So if a few of his films did not work, it doesn't matter. Hits and flops don't count. No one will ask why I'm working with him. In fact, everybody in the industry is asking who Subhash Ghai has cast in his films. I and my co actor Mishti (who makes her debut with this film) have become talking points. Kaanchi's a musical thriller and the USP is that it's Subhash ji's comeback film. Kaanchi's got a lot of action, scenes and story. It's very real".
